How We Got Started
Outdoor Rookie was started by 2 backpackers looking for an easier way to introduce people to the outdoors. In particular, the focus is on people who are working professionals who may not have the time to research all the available gear and details to start backpacking. We were once in those exact shoes. We started looking for an escape from the 9-5 desk job. We shopped, tried on, tested out and asked questions about all sorts of gear. After numerous trips to the store and numerous hours of research, we purchased our very first item: a backpack - that's right, all that for 1 item. That's when we started thinking, "There has got to be an easier way to purchase high quality backpacking gear without spending so much time researching and wandering through stores.”
Thus, the Outdoor Rookie concept was born. We do the research and provide you with the key information you need to know for a variety of outdoor gear without overwhelming you. We will sell these high quality products with a standard of personal care that's difficult to get from a warehouse type store.
